Acupuncture is a complimentary medical practice that stems from traditional Chinese medicine. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) acknowledges that the entire body is interconnected and there is a flow of energy (Qi) throughout it. Energy flows through meridians that are associated with different organ systems. When the body is healthy, energy, or Qi, is flowing smoothly throughout the meridians, when the body is unhealthy, there can be blockages in the flow of energy. Acupuncture is used to help remove these blockages.
The benefits of acupuncture extend to a wide variety of conditions including hormone balance, regulating menstrual cycles, improving fertility, reducing anxiety and stress, pain relief (arthritis, muscle pain, etc.), smoking cessation, insomnia, migraines, and respiratory challenges.
Acupuncture also stimulates the release of endorphins – the body’s natural pain-relieving neurohormones – through the insertion of needles into specific acupuncture points to encourage natural healing.
In addition to asian medicine and acupuncture, which is part of the core curriculum of Naturopathic Medical School, Naturopathic Doctors are also trained in dry needling. Dry needling is a modern form of acupuncture that is used to help relieve muscle pain by inserting the needles into 'trigger points' to stimulate and release muscle tension. Both methods can be combined with electostimulation if needed.
Dr Jessica also has additional training in Cosmetic or Facial Acupuncture.
